About Mary Climes

Mary Climes is an artist that deals primarily with allegorical sequential art to tell narratives of loneliness, intimacy, and complacency. She uses humor and cartooning to draw viewers into condensed compositions reflecting Catholicism and the mysticism surrounding the female figure in the American suburban landscape. She grew up on the Jersey Shore, received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and MFA in Printmaking at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She currently lives in Saint Paul, MN and is an Assistant Professor of Comics and Foundations at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
